Northbrook, Ill., Jan. 4, 2010 - Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), a world leader in product safety testing and certification services, announced today that it has acquired Compliance Certification Services (CCS) of Fremont, Calif. The acquisition results in a newly formed division at UL and bolsters its EMC testing capabilities and global market access.

CCS, now to be known as UL CCS, an independent electromagnetic compliance (EMC) and wireless testing organization, primarily serves U.S., Taiwanese, Chinese, Korean and Japanese manufacturers. The acquisition provides UL with the capabilities to test and certify to a wider range of standards, including the FCC in the US; the CE in Europe; the MIC in Japan; the IC in Canada; the IDA in Singapore; the NCC/BSMI in Taiwan, and; the KCC in Korea.

"UL's mission is to advance public safety worldwide, and the acquisition of UL CCS grows our EMC and wireless testing and certification capabilities locally and globally," said Keith Williams, UL's President and CEO. "Additionally, the UL CCS team's innovative and specialized testing services advance our leadership in certification and enable us to provide better service and more options for our customers."

With the UL CCS testing center in Fremont, UL strengthens its presence in U.S. technology hub, Silicon Valley, Calif., where its state-of-the-art photovoltaic testing facility is located. UL CCS also expands UL's testing capabilities to include certifying antennas for the telecommunications industry and evaluating interoperability of wireless communications.

"UL is the leader in safety testing and certification, and UL CCS builds on that with our EMC and wireless expertise," said Mike Kuo, President, UL CCS.  "At the same time, UL CCS works with many of the world's foremost chipset manufacturers in developing regulatory compliance tests to obtain international regulatory approvals for new products, and we're thrilled to be able to offer our existing customers global market acceptance for safety and new testing services from UL."
