Boulder, Colorado – August 11, 2020 – HOMER Energy by UL, the global leader in the development of standard-setting energy modeling software, announced today that registration is now open for the 8th annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference, taking place online October 12-16, 2020.

This year’s conference is sending a global call to “Join the Microgrid Revolution.” Attendance is free for this five-day virtual event, with online sessions led by global industry experts who will explore the rapidly changing world of microgrids and distributed energy resources.

Free attendance provides energy professionals with unprecedented access to valuable microgrid resources and content from industry thought leaders. With no travel required for attendees, conference hosts expect record participation from every corner of the globe.

Sponsorships and virtual booths are available for leading companies in the microgrid market who want to reach this highly engaged community.

Microgrid project development is on the rise worldwide, supported by technology advancements, policy shifts and necessity. In a world experiencing a pandemic, extreme weather events and wildfires, microgrids are seen as critical, resilient, flexible and efficient sources of reliable power.

Now in its eighth year, the HOMER International Microgrid Conference, presented by HOMER Energy by UL, brings together a global community of microgrid experts, customers, project developers, equipment suppliers, financiers and sustainability leaders for the purpose of advancing high-quality, affordable microgrids and distributed energy systems in off-grid, remote and grid-tied settings.

Participants gain practical and technical insight into microgrid applications globally via knowledge-sharing presentations, in-depth discussions with industry leaders and examples of diverse microgrid finance models and value propositions.

This year’s conference explores the latest advancements and case studies through presentations by leading experts in important topics such as microgrids for resilience and emergency response; technology advances; microgrids for energy access; grid-connected systems for resilience, demand charge management and EV charging; and microgrid policy development.

Confirmed speakers for 2020 include Karl Rábago, senior policy advisor, Pace Energy and Climate Center at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law; Tom Drake, senior sales manager, Gas Power Systems Group, MTU, a Rolls Royce Power Systems Company; Tom Stanton, principal researcher for energy and environment, National Regulatory Research Institute; and Peter Lilienthal, founder of HOMER Energy, who leads microgrid software and advisory services for UL.  The full agenda is now available at the conference website, microgridconference.com.

“Since we started the conference eight years ago, it has been a welcome opportunity for people on the forefront of microgrids to learn from one another,” Lilienthal said.

“Hybrid systems are in greater demand than ever before and growth is explosive. We’re looking forward to exploring the driving factors behind this growth and are excited for our community to once again come together to share expertise, experiences and solutions. With the rise in the use of microgrids, our presenters are more varied than ever before,” Lilienthal said.
