MEPs Supports Banning of BPA in FCM

November 7, 2016

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have supported the banning of bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact materials (FCM).

The MEPs identify that plastics and ceramics have been tested to human health while varnishes, coatings, inks and adhesives are not. The MEPs also state that the European Commission should establish a specific measure for paper and board, varnishes and coatings, metals and alloys, printing inks and adhesives being used in FCM.

The vote pertaining to the banning of BPA leads to the table of Joint Research Center of the EC for further study and evaluation.
