Food Contact Materials: China Publishes New Standard for Adhesives in FCM

On March 12, 2024, the National Health Commission (NHC) published 47 new mandatory food safety national standards including GB 4806.15-2024 (Adhesives for Food Contact Materials and Products).

This standard, the first adhesive standards for food contact materials and articles in China, establishes safety requirements for adhesives that come into contact with food (both directly and indirectly). Annexes A and B provide the list of raw materials that may be used in adhesives in direct contact and indirect contact with food, respectively.

The standard also provides the following requirements:

1. Sensory and physical chemical indicators
2. Labelling shall comply With GB 4806.1 and must show the product category on the label (adhesives for direct contact with food and adhesives for indirect contact with food)
