On Feb. 18, 2026, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) extended for an additional 90 days the postponement of certain provisions in its final rule regulating trichloroethylene (TCE) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

The delay applies specifically to the conditions imposed on the uses with TSCA section 6(g) exemptions. Effective Feb. 17, 2026, these conditions are now postponed until May 18, 2026.

The original rule, issued on Dec. 17, 2024, prohibited all TCE uses under TSCA section 6(a), with most bans — including manufacturing and processing for nearly all commercial and all consumer products — taking effect within one year.

The rule also allowed limited exemptions with extended phaseouts and workplace restrictions. The final rule had initially been set to take effect on Jan. 16, 2025.
