Argentina: Changes in Conformity Assessment Regulations

Argentina revises electrical safety and PPE rules. Learn more about the new QR-based conformity marking now required for market access.

Staying abreast of market entry requirements is more important — and challenging — than ever to maintain market access in Argentina. The government introduced significant changes to conformity assessment legislation for electrical product safety compliance.

Argentina’s new rules and market access changes

Argentina regulated electrical safety through Resolution 169/2018. This unique resolution covered all electrical and electronic equipment within a certain range of voltage.

On the other hand, Argentina also regulated personal protective equipment (PPE) through Resolution 896/99, a unique resolution that covered all personal protective elements and equipment.

However, on Feb. 25, 2025, the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce released the new regulation for electrical safety as well as the new regulation for PPE: Resolution 18/25.

For electrical safety, the new regulation consists of three resolutions covering different groups of products.

Resolution 16 is subdivided into four appendices.

  • Appendix 1: Covers power supplies
  • Appendix 2: Covers household appliances
  • Appendix 3: Lighting devices
  • Appendix 4: Electronic audio and video devices

On the other hand, Resolution 17 contains only one appendix and covers motor-operated tools and machines.

The third, Resolution 236, contains a single appendix and in conjunction with a complementary resolution, Resolution 26, covers all materials for electrical installations.

The enforcement date for all the resolutions was Feb. 25, 2025.

Main changes in conformity assessment

Safety Certification + Declaration of Conformity (DoC) by Manufacturer or Importer

Product safety certification may be achieved according to any of the following schemes: 1b, 2, 3, 4 and 5 from ISO/IEC 17067 issued by any of the following:

  • Organismo Argentino de Acreditacion (OAA)-accredited certification bodies
  • Foreign International Accreditation Forum (IAF)-accredited certification organizations
  • Foreign non-IAF accredited certification organizations having a recognition agreement with a local OAA-accredited certification organization

Note: CB Certificates are also accepted.

New marking requirements

Products within the scope of the new Argentine resolutions must comply with the Conformity Marking requirements established in Resolution 237/24 and Provision 1/24, required as of Oct. 1, 2025.

These regulations eliminate the requirement for the “S” logo on certified products, and instead determine a new conformity marking composed of a conformity mark and a quick response (QR) code.

Argentina QR code

Prior to marketing in Argentina, manufacturers and importers of products that are required to have a product certification must add said conformity marking on the products.

Scanning the QR Code from a labelled product should direct to a website to see the DoC signed by the manufacturer or importer, and the product certificate.

The new Regulation states that S Mark certificates issued under previous Resolutions may remain valid until Feb. 26, 2026. After that date, only certificates under new regulations (i.e., Resolution16/25) will be valid.
