The William Henry Merrill Society (WHMS) was established in 2006 and named in honor of the founder of UL Research Institutes, UL Standards & Engagement and UL Solutions. Each year, the WHMS formally recognizes a small and exclusive group of technical experts across these organizations whose expertise and innovation have driven meaningful, lasting advances in safety science. WHMS members not only shape the future of safety but also actively share their knowledge and mentor others who might someday become members.
Membership
WHMS members are designated as Corporate Fellows or Distinguished Members of Technical Staff. Inductees must be technical professionals who have earned recognition both inside and outside the three UL enterprise organizations as leading authorities in their fields of expertise. They are selected through a detailed review of job experience, technical achievements, publications, patents, professional affiliations and overall contributions to the companies’ shared mission of working for a safer world.
