In her 23 years at UL Solutions, Heike has focused on identifying key trends and translating them into new services and strategies across different industries, including industrial automation, renewable energies, consumer domains, artificial intelligence and more. She is currently the senior manager of the UL Solutions Modeling and Simulation (M&S) for Compliance business, a program that helps customers use M&S in contribution to the certification decisions.

Modeling and simulation for compliance
In her role leading M&S, Heike addresses the increasing demand for acceptable, trustworthy digitalization as part of the product certification process and broader compliance. Digital M&S can empower a more efficient path to product design and certification. The process deploys verified and validated digital models and physical validation testing to support certification decisions. Together, this yields more precise technical details and reduces the need for prototypes. Using M&S-generated data to support certification requires great confidence in the models. To meet this need, Heike and other team members across the organization developed a robust independent model verification and validation (IMV&V) framework and corresponding process to help establish the integrity of M&S predictions in helping to meet compliance requirements.

Service portfolio development around enabling technologies
Enabling technologies, such as automation, connectivity and digitalization, drive innovation and transform our world. Throughout her career at UL Solutions, Heike has deployed her creative insights and business acumen to help conceptualize and develop safety and performance testing, inspection and certification services around these technologies. Through extensive engagement with industry, customers and UL Solutions engineering staff, she builds portfolios of science-based services that measure cybersecurity, functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility, energy efficiency and more. To support these services, Heike also works with UL Solutions engineers to facilitate the development of new standards.
“The possibilities for modeling and simulation to support compliance and product development are extremely valuable, and it’s just the beginning. We’re joining our customers in the journey, and our many decades of product domain expertise combined with the simulation experience provides them with significant value.”
