UL Laboratory in Taiwan Now Authorized Independent Test Lab (ITL) for USB Type C Cable Assemblies & Connectors and PD E-Marker Testing

UL, a global safety science company dedicated to promoting safe living and working environments worldwide, announced today that USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the non-profit corporation founded by the group of companies that developed the Universal Serial Bus specification recently approved UL’s Laboratory in Taiwan as a qualified Independent Test Lab (ITL) to test USB Type C cable assemblies and connectors as well as PD E-Markers.  UL has previously been qualified for testing USB Types A & B cable assemblies and connectors.

USB is available on a wide range of computer peripherals, tablets, mobile phones and many other devices for data and power transmission. The new USB Type C interface uses a slim and robust connector tailored to fit mobile device product designs, such as laptops, mobile phones and tablets. The differentiating features of Type C include reversible plug orientation and cable direction and support for scalable power and performance to future-proof different end applications. The PD E-Markers are the chips used in the USB Type C cable assemblies to report the characteristics supported by a specific cable, including current-carrying capability and vendor identification.
