Sękocin Nowy, Poland, October 22, 2019 UL, a leading global safety science company, announced today that its laboratory in Poland has been accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS).

Covering the testing and certification of batteries, information technology, consumer electronics and office, laboratory and medical equipment, the designation recognizes demonstrated compliance with ISO/IEC Standard 17025:2005, requirements related to testing and calibration laboratories. The accreditation was awarded after IAS performed an extensive onsite evaluation, witnessed by peer experts, which verified compliance with international requirements.

A nonprofit, public-benefit corporation that has been providing accreditation services since 1975, IAS accredits a wide range of companies and organizations including governmental entities, commercial businesses and professional associations. IAS accreditation programs are based on recognized national and international standards that help ensure domestic and global acceptance of its accreditations.

While the designation was awarded in Poland, it is recognized worldwide through a series of mutual, or multilateral, recognition arrangements, since IAS is a signatory to the primary international organizations that form a unified system for evaluating and recognizing competent accreditation bodies worldwide.  These include International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC).

According to IAS Global Development and Compliance Vice President Dr. George Anastasopoulos, “Once an accreditation body becomes a APAC or ILAC signatory, it is obligated to recognize the certificates or reports issued by all other signatories within a specified scope.  This means that a product tested at the UL laboratory in Poland will now meet safety and regulatory compliance in numerous countries throughout the world.”

UL’s laboratory in Poland offers a range of services focusing on safety testing and product evaluation.  Using advanced, specialized and sophisticated equipment, the laboratory is able to test and certify battery performance and medical and laboratory use equipment.  In addition, the facility has the ability to perform evaluations on lasers and e-cigarette battery systems, and is one of the only facilities in Europe to evaluate on micromobility devices, including e-bikes, e-scooters and hoverboards.

“Innovation taking place globally is quickly changing how we live, work, play and learn. Companies are continually inventing world-changing products and solutions.  They want to make sure these innovations are safe and can fulfill their market promise — no matter where that market might be,” said Ghislain Devouge, global vice president and general manager, Consumer Technology, UL. “Navigating the regulatory landscape of global markets is a complex and challenging task. This is where we come in with all the essentials of global market access: from product safety and design to performance testing and regulatory compliance.  The IAS accreditation is a testament to UL’s ability to help companies fast-track their project fulfillment and enter multiple destination markets smoothly.”
