Tell us about your career.
I joined UL Solutions in 2018 as a project engineer in the Appliances, HVAC and Lighting Team. I brought a technical background from my previous role at a household appliances manufacturer. Since joining UL Solutions, I have mainly worked with heating, air conditioning and ventilation products.
I stepped into a leadership role in 2021 when I became a team leader in Italy, supporting the Turkish, Middle East and part of the German HVAC team. In 2024, I became engineering manager. I have to say I have never had a quiet moment, there is a lot of exciting transformation underway, and I really get to see the impact of our work and the real meaning of our mission in action.
What does your day-to-day role look like?
My day is very focused on my teams. I work closely with my people to support their growth and to ensure we are aligned with our strategies and priorities. If you stay in your comfort zone, someone will eventually overshadow you. What truly differentiates us in the market is the added value we provide to our customers through our projects. That’s why it is so important to me that everyone on my team feels supported, understands their role in our broader mission and continues to grow their skills and career.
I also travel frequently to customer facilities, as many of the products we work with are very large and must be tested in situ. I also travel a lot to meet my teams and other colleagues across the EMEA region. I try to prioritize in-person time with my team members, as maintaining strong communication is especially important when the team is spread across a region.
Can you share the most interesting or exciting aspect of your role?
The most exciting and interesting part of my role is overcoming obstacles and challenges. In a technical role, there are always complexities and urgencies, especially when customer products fail tests. When this happens, we work together to support the client and make sure that we can address the issues leading to the failure. It’s a very dynamic part of the role, because you never know what obstacles you might face on a project until they happen. You’re always learning something new and learning to adapt.
Can you share your proudest achievement at UL Solutions?
In 2025, we held a grand opening for a new lab in Carugate, where we can now test and certify heat pumps. It is a cutting-edge facility that we are very proud of. I served as the project manager, coordinating many internal and external work streams.
I was able to give a speech at the grand opening and connect with colleagues from across UL Solutions and a wide range of teams, many of whom I would never normally interact with had it not been for this project. I am so proud that I have made a real difference, especially since heat pumps are a more sustainable technology. I can really see how I have made a contribution to our mission of making the world a safer, more sustainable world.
How are you helping to create a safer world?
There is a lot of evolution underway across heating and cooling industries due to climate change. Being involved in the certification of these products is a great feeling, as it allows you to be deeply connected to our mission, especially when working on cooling technologies alongside digitization and the AI revolution. All of the data centers and computing equipment need to be kept cool.
Many of our clients are developing products designed to reduce the environmental impact of both their operations and those of their customers. Some of these technologies and components, for example, may reduce the overall environmental impact but may pose new challenges for safety certification, such as flammability. Being part of this transformation and helping make sure these new technologies comply with safety standards every day, is how I contribute to delivering the mission of UL Solutions.
How do the UL Solutions core values of safety, integrity, respect and growth show up in your day-to-day work?
Safety is at the core of everything my team and I do every day. I would say UL Solutions is full of people acting with integrity and respect; I see this every day in the way people across the company collaborate with each other across borders and even continents. Our core values are essential to making this kind of collaboration possible.
Growth is the fuel behind our work and our mission, and I believe that if we are focusing on doing the right thing and delivering, both on our mission and for our clients, growth becomes a natural consequence.
