Access to the UAE is now a little easier for manufacturers of fire detection and alarm systems.
UL is delighted to confirm that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Civil Defense has accredited the UL-EU Mark as a certifying scheme for European Standards for fire detection and alarm systems.
As the Authority of Jurisdiction for fire and life safety products in the UAE, the Civil Defense has confirmed that UL is an accepted certification body to certify fire detection systems to both EU and North American standards.
Because different markets and regions around the world rely on different certifications to keep products and people safe, manufacturers looking to import their products in multiple markets have to gain accreditations for their products to the applicable standards in those geographical regions.
This acceptance of the UL-EU Mark can help ease the acceptance of manufacturers’ products in the UAE and other GCC countries.
To import, manufacture or sell products in the UAE and other countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, manufacturers must test and certify with an accredited testing laboratory and certification body. With the UAE Civil Defense’s acceptance of the UL-EU Mark, UL is able to simplify the process for manufacturers looking to import their fire detection and alarm products to the UAE as well as Europe or North American markets.
Previously, manufacturers wishing to use the widely recognized UL Mark for the UAE had to re-engineer EU products to meet North American requirements. The acceptance of the UL-EU Mark in the UAE means that manufacturers can work with UL on their existing product lines.
UL’s regulatory engineer, Ghaith Bakir explained: “UL is fully accredited to all the current elements of EN and the related North American standards. This accreditation means the UL-EU Mark offers access into the Middle East region, allowing UL to provide European manufacturers with global market access using the trusted UL brand. With the nearly universal acceptance of the mark across GCC countries, and with UL’s data acceptance policies, UL can also help manufacturers who have not done their initial testing with UL to gain access to these markets.”
