According to the European Union (EU) Rapid Exchange of Information System (RAPEX), apparel was the most recalled product in the EU 2012, accounting for 34 percent of RAPEX notifications. Of these notifications, the most frequently cited threats were related to chemical risk, risk of strangulation, and risk of injury.
China was the top source of notified products, accounting for 58 percent of all RAPEX notifications. Notably, total RAPEX notifications rose 26 percent over 2011, signaling potentially heightened scrutiny on the part of EU enforcement authorities.
