INMETRO Publishes Guide to Textile Labeling

BRAZIL - The National Institute of Metrology Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of Brazil has published a primer booklet, Você Sabe Para que Serve a Etiqueta (Do You Know What the Label Is For?), to help consumers understand the symbolism related to product conservation and ways to make more appropriate choices, preserving clothes and consumer’s health.

The current textile labeling requirements include:

  • Name or corporate name or trademark of the manufacturer
  • The tax identification of the domestic manufacturer or importer (CNPJ)
  • Country of origin
  • The fiber name or textile fibers and its content expressed as a percentage
  • An indication of size
  • At least the top five of the textile conservation treatments, through symbols and / or text
