The European Union (EU) has amended Annexes III, V and VI to Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and the Council on cosmetic products.
Amendments made to e.g. C16-alkyltrimethylammonium chloride (Cetrimonium chloride) and C18-alkyltrimethylammonium chloride (Steartrimonium chloride) can have a maximum concentration of 2.5 percent in “rinse-off hair products” for the individual concentrations or the sum of the individual concentrations both substances; whereas for “leave-on hair products” 1.0 percent and for “leave-on face products” 0.5 percent for the individual concentrations or the sum of the individual concentrations.
The amendments were made to the regulation on August 8, 2014 and will enter into force twentieth day following that of its publication.
