Through scientific analysis and review outlined in globally accepted standards, UL Solutions can help you demonstrate that your products live up to their environmental claims and do not perpetuate greenwashing.
Using recycled content reduces reliance on virgin materials and lowers the volume of waste sent to landfill, which can contribute to a reduced environmental impact.
Recycled content also plays a significant role in lowering Scope 3 emissions. By using recycled materials, companies can limit the emissions tied to extracting, processing and transportation virgin resources.
UL 2809, the Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Recycled Content, defines recycled content as material that has been reprocessed from recovered (reclaimed) materials by means of a manufacturing process and made into a final product, material or component for incorporation into a product. The proportion of recycled content within a product is measured by mass.
By evaluating products to UL 2809, UL Solutions can validate the amount of recycled content in your products, including post-consumer, pre-consumer (post-industrial) recycled content, closed loop, total recycled content, ocean plastic, ocean-bound plastic or by-product synergy.
After successful completion of the validation, the product will receive a UL Environmental Claim Validation certificate, UL SPOT database listing and the UL Environmental Claim Validation Mark. The Mark enables you to confidently showcase your use of circular material to consumers. The Mark enables you to confidently showcase your use of circular material to consumers, providing you with a meaningful advantage in today’s complex, sustainability-focused marketplace.
Recycled content speaks to the efficiency and integrity of your supply chain and represents the commitment you’ve made to product circularity and environmental stewardship.
