Positioning devices include a range of products, such as cable ties, fixing devices, bundling wraps, cable wraps, wiring ducts and similar types of related hardware. These devices provide mechanical means for bundling, securing and positioning wires and cables for factory installation within equipment and for field installation to meet national installation codes. The selection and installation of cable ties and other positioning devices can affect their suitability for a specific electrical installation. ## Cable tie requirements for electrical installations UL 62275, the Standard for Cable Management Systems — Cable Ties for Electrical Installations, provides requirements for cable ties and associated fixing devices used in electrical installations. The application guide is derived from UL 62275 and intended to assist code authorities, designers and installers in determining the suitability of cable ties in a particular installation and use. ## Making informed decisions about cable tie applications A certified cable tie or fixing device has undergone testing to demonstrate performance under defined environmental and mechanical conditions. Depending on the product and application, considerations may include temperature exposure, vibration, strength, material type, mounting method, support rating, environmental ratings and package markings. Inspectors reviewing an installation should confirm not only the presence of positioning devices but also whether the product's certified ratings match the intended application.
