UL’s Integrated Health & Safety Institute (IHSI) today announced the formation of an external advisory board.
CHICAGO, Ill., June 7, 2016 – UL’s Integrated Health & Safety Institute (IHSI) today announced the formation of an external advisory board.
The IHSI board includes industry and academic leaders with extensive expertise in the integration of health and safety. Board members will provide key market transformation insights, assist with developing strategic partnerships, and help identify opportunities in the IHSI strategy.
Members of IHSI’s advisory board:
“UL’s IHSI is honored to have such breadth and depth of expertise in our inaugural advisory board,” said Todd Hohn, IHSI’s global director. “Our strong advisory board, combined with the research backing of UL and our founding partner, the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, puts IHSI on track to serve as the guiding force for truly integrating employer health and safety programs around the world.”
In its first year, IHSI has already made great strides in providing organizations with evidence to support the benefits of integrating health and safety in the workplace and begun the development of educational guidance and measurement tools. IHSI sponsored a study published in the January 2016 issue of JOEM, which found a correlation between a healthy and safe workforce and a company’s stock market performance. The Institute published a standard offering organizations a set of components that should be considered as part of integrated health and safety programming. To help organizations measure the effectiveness of their integrated strategies, IHSI has also developed an index allowing companies to translate the impact of employer health and safety programs in three core dimensions: economic, environmental and social. Most recently, the Institute published a report ranking state’s prevalence of health conditions and workplace safety rates compared to the national average.
