Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the global, independent safety testing organization, and Lowe’s Home Improvement stores today announced a consumer safety initiative to teach consumers about product safety. Beginning May 3, UL’s high-tech and entertaining mobile safety exhibit will engage and entertain consumers at 63 Lowe’s locations across the country.

NORTHBROOK, Ill., May 1, 2008 — Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the global, independent safety testing organization, and Lowe’s Home Improvement stores today announced a consumer safety initiative to teach consumers about product safety. Beginning May 3, UL’s high-tech and entertaining mobile safety exhibit will engage and entertain consumers at 63 Lowe’s locations across the country.
The mobile UL Safety Tour is an interactive exhibit of high-tech demonstrations and challenges that engage and educate consumers on hidden household and outdoor dangers. The exhibit also introduces the UL Mark as a standard for ensuring products have been rigorously tested.
"We are particularly pleased to partner with Lowe’s as we share a long-standing commitment to consumer safety," states Larry Ross, director of Global Sales and Marketing for UL. "UL evaluates more than 19,000 types of products and materials annually. It is important that consumers understand they have a choice when making a purchase. We encourage consumers to look for the UL Mark as a symbol that the products they are purchasing have gone through the rigorous UL safety certification process."
The UL Safety Tour exhibit includes entertaining safety games for all ages, such as "PASSMaster," a fire extinguisher demonstration game and the "Look for the Mark Challenge." Visitors also can help children work their way through the Fire Escape Obstacle Course. The UL and Lowe’s partnership will kick off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Lowe’s of Northbrook, 1000 Willow Road. The exhibit is free.
