Washington State’s House of Representatives passed House Bill 1294, commonly known as the Toxic-Free Kids & Families Act, restricting the use of certain flame retardants in residential upholstered furniture and children’s products.
Sale of products would not be allowed with greater than 50 ppm of the following flame retardants:
- tris(2- chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP)
- tris(1, 3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TDCPP)
On January 13, 2014, the Washington State Senate reintroduced their companion bill, SB 5181.
