United States Releases Away-from-Home Foods Labeling Guidance

June 17, 2016

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published A Labeling Guide for Restaurants and Retail Establishments Selling Away-From-Home Foods—Part II (Menu Labeling Requirements in Accordance With FDA's Food Labeling Regulations),  which provides guidance to restaurants and similar retail food establishments for complying with menu labeling requirements.  Requirements for calorie and other nutrition information for standard menu items, including food on display and self-service food, are addressed by this guidance.

The guidance was published in the Federal Register on May 5, 2016, and enforcement of the final rule entitled Food Labeling Nutrition Labeling of Standard Menu Items in Restaurant and similar Retail Food Establishments will commence on May 5, 2017.
