UL hosts an Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) Installer Certification Training

Owners, architects, and general contractors can have greater confidence in building performance when they specify their fenestration product installation to ABAA certified installers.

UL is proud to have hosted an Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) Installer Certification Training at our Northbrook, IL Fenestration facility. Participants from 15 different companies attended to learn about the ABAA Quality Assurance requirements as well as installation procedures for self-adhered and fluid applied air barrier assemblies. Beyond the system installation techniques, the students also learned about the typical ABAA QAP components, including how to conduct proper testing and documentation of the system they are installing. Students were exposed to hands-on component testing exercises using the methods they learned in the classroom. Installers were also fully informed about the requirement of having a certified ABAA auditor review their installations when they are working on an ABAA specified project.

Participants took a tour of the UL Fenestration laboratory to learn more about testing building products and components and learned about the importance of properly flashing openings and penetrations along the way. Students that successfully completed this training and qualified with a minimum of 3,000 hours will ultimately be the certified installers for air barrier assemblies. Owners, architects, and general contractors can have greater confidence in building performance when they specify the ABAA SAP.  Join UL and ABAA in 2020 for more training course offerings.
