UL and TISI Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Promote National Safety Standards for Thailand

June 25, 2018

BANGKOK, Thailand, June 26, 2018 – Underwriters Laboratories (UL NFP), a global standards development body, and the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), the national standards organization for Thailand, established under the Ministry of Industry by virtue of the Industrial Product Standards Act B.E. 2511, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Signed by Mr. Keith Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Underwriters Laboratories, and Mr. Apichin Jotikasthira, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Acting Secretary General of the Thai Industrial Standards Institute, and witnessed by Mr. Pasu Loharjun, Permanent Secretary for Industry, the MOU covers the exchange of standards information between UL NFP and TISI, TISI participation in UL Standards Technical Panels, and cooperation and collaboration between the organizations on safety related standards issues.

TISI develops both mandatory and voluntary Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) to suit the need and the growth of industry, trade and economy of the country. Thai Industrial Standards are developed according to government policy for consumer protection and industrial promotion in order to be competitive in the world market, in addition to environmental protection and natural resources preservation. TISI participates in the development of International Standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

“Underwriters Laboratories is pleased to partner with TISI to continue to advance our global public safety mission through the sharing of safety information and collaboration on the implementation of effective safety standards within Thailand,” said Phil Piqueira, vice president of global standards for Underwriters Laboratories. “As the national standards body in Thailand, TISI is a welcome partner in the pursuit of effective safety standards, globally. We welcome the opportunity to have a stronger working relationship with safety leaders in Thailand.”
