Taiwan to Begin Inspection of Children’s Raincoats for Phthalates, Heavy Metals, and Drawstrings

April 20, 2015

Taiwan has published in its official gazette the mandatory inspection of children’s rainwear for eight phthalates and eight heavy metals.

Domestically produced and imported raincoats will be inspected for the presence of the following hazards, which are restricted in Taiwan under standard CNS 15503 on general requirements for safety of children's products:

  • Phthalates: DMP, DEP, DBP, BBP, DEHP, DNOP, DINP and DIDP
  • Heavy metals: antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury and selenium
  • Cords and drawstrings in the hood and neck area

A two track system of monitoring and inspection and registration of product certification will be adopted. The certificate will be valid for three years.
