EFSA Panel Publishes Opinion on Zinc Oxide in FCM

April 14, 2016

The European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavorings and Processing Aids (CEF) released its opinion on the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles in food contact materials (FCMs).

The panel has concluded that zinc oxide nanoparticles do not migrate in nanoform when used in un-plasticized polymers; therefore, safety evaluation should focus on the migration of soluble ionic zinc.

The assessment was published on March 2, 2016.
