How to promote the work you’re doing with UL

By working with UL, you have taken an important step in delivering confidence to your customers. So why not tell them about it? Communicating that you are working with UL differentiates your brand with the credibility of third-party review. C&I Value Chain research has shown that 100% of installers, as well as 100% of companies selling to retailers or consumers, believe that third-party review is important. That’s why we want to help you accurately spread the word about the work you have recently done or are doing with UL.

TALKING ABOUT YOUR UL PARTNERSHIP

To help you promote your partnership, we’ve written phrases you can and cannot use in your promotions.

Some examples of how marketing copy can be applied

Note: In the below copy samples, where you see “UL’s” (possessive), please note that this assumes UL is not part of the proper name of the audit, test, inspection service, software or test tool used. If UL is part of the name, e.g., UL Everclean, please refer to it as “UL Name’s” (possessive).

Auditing marketing copy

You can use any of the phrases below to describe your relationship with UL.

SOME CONSIDERATIONS TO KEEP IN MIND AS YOU WRITE

Specificity is key

Rather than say you’re a UL client, identify the exact product, process, place, etc., that was assessed. For greater credibility and a stronger connection to UL, include a link to the specific service you’ve used, e.g., Analytical Testing.

Be as accurate as possible

Make sure you’re correctly and clearly communicating the partnership and its benefits. For example, UL is a third-party service provider that does not guarantee safety or make your offering the “best,” so avoid those kinds of statements. Also, be careful when referring to the specific service you’ve used; these guidelines focus on auditing, testing, inspection, and software and test tools. Lastly, marketing copy and references to UL don’t last forever. For auditing, testing, and inspection services, please reference UL no longer than 6 months after the end of your UL project. For software and test tools, you can use the marketing copy until you’re done using the software or test tool. When it has expired, feel free to give us a call to continue the partnership.

In general, make sure you:

  1. Do not refer to UL in internet domains or subdomains
  2. Do not use your UL reports, certificates or documentation in your marketing activities
  3. Do not state or imply that UL or UL work supports a specific conclusion
  4. Do not use the UL enterprise logo
