Product designers are increasingly looking to add UV emitting LEDs or lamps to devices to take advantage of their potential inactivation properties against COVID-19. The addition of these UV generating components also introduces concerns for whether the UV radiation can potentially harm the skin and eyes.

However, companies may not be aware of how these potential UV hazards can be evaluated, or even which standards can be used.

In this webinar, UL expert Winn Henderson will explain:

  • Which standards can be used to evaluate the potential photobiological hazard from UV radiation
  • The basics of the photobiological safety testing methods and classification schemes for UV radiation
  • Considerations for subsequent requirements (such as construction, labeling and user manual), based on the potential UV hazard
