The EU RoHS Directive and similar laws around the world are dynamic. The number of substances specified under the EU’s RoHS law will increase to ten as four new phthalate compounds will be phased in for restriction in 2019. A description of these compounds and their maximum allowable concentrations will be provided. Potential new substances that may be added to future iterations (RoHS 3 or RoHS 4) as well as related IEC activities will also be discussed.
Additionally, information on the global restrictions of halogenated compounds including the recent US CPSC guidance regarding Petition 2015 HP 15-1 on the use of non-polymeric organo-halogen flame retardants in children’s products, furniture, mattresses and electronic enclosures will be provided.
