The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) of Taiwan has proposed a regulation limiting the residue limit for impurity heavy metal cadmium and barium in cosmetics.

This regulation proposes the following limits for cosmetics:

  1. To lower the maximum level from 20 ppm to 5 ppm for impurity of cadmium
  2. To prohibit the use of Barium salts, with the exception of barium sulfate, barium sulphide, and of insoluble barium salts, lakes and pigments prepared from coloring agents.

The regulations are open for public comments until November 30, 2017.
