The Council on Legislation of Sweden has proposed to amend the Act 2009:1424 on the control of protected designations for agricultural products and foodstuffs.

The regulation is named as Act (2009: 1424) Amendment on the protection for designations on agricultural products and foodstuffs.

This amended regulation aims to ensure that the Swedish spirits designations will continue to be registered under regulation EC No. 1102008. The producer must satisfy the specified requirements set by the Commission to be able to use the protected designation for Swedish aquavit, Swedish vodka, and Swedish punch.

The regulation is proposed to enter into force on July 1, 2017.
