The Ministry of Environment and Energy of Sweden has enacted the prohibition on the sale of microplastics in cosmetic products on February 1, 2018.

This Ordinance prohibits the use of microplastic particles less than 5 mm in size in any dimension from rinse-off cosmetic products.  An exception is made for plastic particles that consist only of naturally occurring polymers that have not been chemically modified.

The Ordinance will be enforced on July 1, 2018 while products in stock before the prohibition commences may continue to be sold in stores until January 1, 2019.
