The European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Scientific Risks (SCHEER) had been requested to develop a scientific opinion on the tolerable intake of aluminium, with regards to adapting migration limits in toys.

The initiative has been in response to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) specifying lower tolerable intake levels than those used in the EU toy safety Directive.

The preliminary opinion is expected to be finished by May, with the final opinion in autumn of this year.
