Commission Regulation (EU) 2015 ⁄ 2030 published recently, reports the amendment to Annex I of Reg. (EC) 850 ⁄ 2014 on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

With particular reference to consumer products, in the amendment is about a modification of the entry concerning alkanes C10-C13, chloro (short-chain chlorinated paraffins) (SCCPs). Reg. (EU) 2015 ⁄ 2030 clarifies that it is allowed to place on the market and use articles containing SCCP in concentrations lower than 0.15% by weight.

We remind that Regulation (EC) No. 850 ⁄ 2004 implements the commitments set out in the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and aims to minimize the emission into the environment of persistent organic pollutants, which can accumulate in the tissues of humans and animals.

Please note that the non-compliance with this regulation has resulted, in many cases, in withdrawals made by the Competent Authority and subsequent notifications published on the RAPEX (Rapid Alert System for dangerous non-food products), because of the environmental risks of presence of SCCP in some consumer products.

Based on the notifications published, there is the presence SCCPs in articles such as toys made of plastics or synthetic leather accessories that are found not to comply with the requirements of Regulation POP.

Regulation (EU) 2015 ⁄ 2030 is already into force.

Our laboratories are ready to support you to verify in your articles the presence of SCCPs in accordance with the provisions of the above Regulation mentioned above.
