Nordic Council has agreed to lobby a complete ban on microbeads in cosmetics and skin care products as proposed by the social democratic group at a meeting in the Norwegian parliament last week.

The ban aims to address the issue of water pollution caused by these microbeads. As basis for the proposal, it was reported that some 40 tonnes of microbeads were detected in wastewater in Norway.

If approved this will be apply to Nordic countries namely as: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
