The new Italian standard dedicated to the sling carriers and soft carrier without integrated leg openings is in a final drafting phase.

The standard will specify safety requirements and test methods for sling carriers and soft carrier without integrated leg openings designed to carry a child in one or more positions and secured to the carrier’s torso.

The standard applies to the following types of products for full-term babies:

  • baby wraps
  • one shoulder carriers
  • slings with panel
  • soft carrier without integrated leg openings

The main requirements present in the new standard are:

  • Introduction of chemical requirements and test methods
  • Introduction of flammability requirements and test methods
  • Introduction of requirements and test methods to avoid entanglement in cords, ribbons and parts used as ties
  • Introduction of requirements and test methods to avoid choking and ingestion hazards
  • Introduction of requirements and test methods to avoid hazards from inadequate structural integrity and inadequate protective function
  • Introduction of requirements and test methods to avoid falling hazards
  • Introduction of product information with specific attention to marking, purchase information and instruction of use
