The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania has drafted an order intended for cosmetic products and personal hygiene products. The draft is Draft Order of the Minister for Health of the Republic of Lithuania amending Order No 288 of the Minister for Health of the Republic of Lithuania of 15 May 2001 approving Lithuanian Hygiene Norm HN 64–1:2001. Cosmetic products and personal hygiene products: maximum permissible level of microbial contamination.

The order aims to define microbiological qualitative and quantitative limits for finished cosmetic products. Specifically, the order provides the following categories:

  • Category 1: products specifically intended for children under 3 years and care products of eyes, mucous membranes
  • Category 2: products, not involved in Category 1

The order is based from the following:

  • Lithuanian standard LST EN ISO 17516:2015 Cosmetics Microbiology — Microbiological limits (ISO 17516:2014)
  • 9th Revision of SCCS Notes of Guidance for the Testing of Cosmetic Ingredients and Their Safety Evaluation

The order is open for public consultation until March 8, 2017.
