Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MOHW) has proposed amendment to Food Sanitation Act as regards to sanitary regulations for food utensils, containers and packaging.

This regulation proposes a management (positive list) system that allows only substances whose safety is evaluated to be used for utensils, containers and packaging for food and food additives.

The regulation details the responsibilities of food business operators and manufacturers to ensure safety of food containers.
