The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has warned the public on the risk for human health related to the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in honey, tea, herbal infusions and food supplements. 

This guide provides a new Reference Point for the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) in honey, tea, herbal infusions and food supplements. This guide sets the new Reference Point of 237 μg/kg body weight per day to assess the carcinogenic risks of PAs, and concludes that there is a possible concern for human health related to the exposure to PAs, 

The assessment was published in July 17, 2017.
