The House of Representatives of Australia has introduced the Industrial Chemicals Bill 2017 that bans animal testing for new chemical ingredients of cosmetics from July 1, 2018.

The proposed bill would affect a wide variety of products. “Cosmetics” are legally defined as any substance used on the body or in the mouth to change its appearance, cleanse it, perfume it or protect it. This includes soaps, shampoos, moisturizers, hair dyes, perfumes and deodorants.

The bill was proposed on June 1, 2017.
