ASTM International has published ASTM F963 — 17 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety to replace ASTM F963-16 as the mandatory toy standard in the US.

This standard is intended to ensure the safety of toys in the US by outlining requirements and tests to prevent common hazards.

The revision includes the necessary language which was missing from the previous 2016 edition regarding the kinetic energy and kinetic energy density requirements for projectile toys. In addition, other editorial changes were made.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) was officially notified of the publication by ASTM on September 1, 2017. If the CPSC does not reject the standard within 90 days, it will become the mandatory standard after 180 days from the date of notification.

Date of publication: August 24, 2017
