Global Investigations and Enforcement
Combating counterfeit goods to protect the supply chain and public safety
We collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies around the globe and our customers to support efforts to seize counterfeit products, press charges and prosecute offenders.
Our team is led by former law enforcement officers, all of whom have specialized experience in investigating and prosecuting counterfeiting offenses. Team members process product authentication requests from authorities and our customers in an effort to identify and stop the import of products with counterfeited UL Marks.
We employ a strategic approach for dealing with intellectual property (IP) crime, targeting all levels of the supply chain from the manufacturer to the retailer selling the illegal goods, identifying counterfeiters and gathering evidence to support criminal, civil and administrative actions.

Border Protection Program
Securing Borders to Stem the Flow of Counterfeit Goods
Our Border Protection Program is tasked with processing product authentication requests from authorities and our customers to help identify and stop the import of products bearing a counterfeit UL Mark.
Globally, our work with border and customs agencies prevents hundreds of thousands of potentially hazardous and illegal items from reaching the public.
In 2015, the Global Security and Brand Protection (GSBP) group continued to work closely with various global customs agencies and received more than 1,200 product authentication requests to identify products with counterfeit UL Marks. Our team worked closely with both U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the General Administration of Customs – People’s Republic of China (China Customs) to identify and prevent products with counterfeit UL Marks from entering commerce channels. This work halted the flow of potentially hazardous items from reaching the marketplace and endangering the public.
