William Henry Merrill Society

Named in honor of UL founder William Henry Merrill, whose words "know by test, and state the facts" embody UL's 112-year commitment to technical excellence, the William Henry Merrill Society formally recognizes UL employees who have made a significant and sustained contribution to the fulfillment of UL's public safety mission on an everyday basis.

Membership

Those honored with membership in the William Henry Merrill Society are technical professionals who have been recognized by both UL and other organizations as leading authorities in their field of expertise. Members are selected through a detailed review of job experience, technical achievements, publications, patents, professional affiliations and overall contribution to the fulfillment of UL's safety mission.

Members of the William Henry Merrill Society are designated as UL Corporate Fellows and will be engaged in activities that allow them to influence the future of product safety certification and UL's overall business direction. This includes participating in UL Long-Range Planning Committee meetings and attending an annual "safety retreat" for society members only, where they will discuss important safety certification issues and help identify new initiatives where UL can play a leadership role.

Finally, society members will be responsible for sharing their experience with UL staff and mentoring those who might someday become Merrill Society members themselves.
