UL Compliance Services for Telephone Radio Frequency ImmunityANSI/TIA/EIA-631Underwriters Laboratories Inc., a world leader in EMC testing services has recently added the capabilities to perform telephone immunity testing in accordance with the requirements of ANSI/TIA/EIA-631, "Telecommunications Telephone Terminal Equipment - Radio Frequency Immunity Requirements for Equipment Having an Acoustic Output." Every year the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) receives a high level of consumer complaints of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). Recently, the FCC has been accepting data indicating compliance with ANSI/TIA/EIA-631. Telephones meeting these test criteria have a reduced chance of being susceptible to interference caused by various types of electromagnetic fields. This information is used to create a database of manufacturers claiming compliance. However, currently there are no reliable procedures in place for insuring acoustic outputs are immune under the relevant requirements, nor is it easy or even possible for consumers to readily identify telephones that have been designed to be immune to typical levels of radio interference.
