As part of this conversion the UL label format and the way these labels are ordered will change. The benefits to subscribers include shorter lead times for obtaining UL Marks and the ability to print UL Marks within the UL authorized manufacturing facility.

Task Fee Billing (Follow-Up Service Inspection Fees)

Subscribers for the above product categories are currently invoiced a fixed charge, also referred to as Task Fee, which is invoiced on an inspection visit basis. No changes are being implemented for the invoicing of inspection visits.. The inspection fee is reviewed annually and normally adjusted at the beginning of the year.

Inspection Frequency

Based on UL’s review of the compliance history for the above product categories no changes are expected to the required inspection frequency. The inspection frequency will continue to be linked to production. Your local UL Representative will be able to discuss further the anticipated number of inspection visits based upon your manufacturing location’s projected production volume.

Conversion from Type L to Type R label format

The normal process for obtaining Type L UL Marks is for a UL Label Center to authorize the manufacturer’s request for printing at a UL Authorized Label Supplier on a per order basis for a fixed quantity of Listing Marks. The new Type R Listing Mark will require the manufacturer to first submit a label layout design to a UL Label Center. The UL Label Center will review and, if acceptable, authorize the layout. Once authorized, the manufacturer may then order Listing Marks directly from a UL Authorized Label Supplier or he may reproduce them in his own UL authorized manufacturing facility.

The elements that make up the Type R Listing Mark elements are identified in the Listing Mark Design.
