Security & Signaling MarksImportant Dates for Security and Signaling Marking ChangesUPDATE: DECEMBER 3, 2007 In late August 2007, UL announced the relaunch of the Security & Signaling Marks and simplified Listing Mark texts. The August 2007 communication identified 2 key dates:
Recognizing the amount of effort our clients need to undertake in the conversion to the new Security & Signaling marks, UL has agreed to allow for the ordering and printing of the old style labels throughout 2008. HOWEVER, all products must still be labeled with the new marks and, where appropriate, the simplified product description text beginning on January 1, 2009. Please note, there will no refunds or credits given for any unused old-style labels. We encourage you to begin using the new style labels immediately, which should assist you in your planning for the upcoming transition. New marks may be used immediately as long as the appropriate supplemental text is included as part of the product marketing. The requested supplemental text may be found in the Marking Requirements for the specific product category. The new UL Signaling and Security Marks are intended to provide users and stakeholders alike with greater confidence that fire alarm, security alarm and related equipment have not only been tested for safety, but also have been evaluated for reliability to perform their intended security and/or signaling function. Additionally, this will provide jurisdictional authorities further clarity regarding the meaning of UL Listing Marks on products. During the transitional period, UL will be reviewing and revising all manufacturers' files, at no cost, to include the New Marks and applicable simplified text. Supplemental text that identifies the intended use of the product will be included in the manufacturer's file and will be required once the simplified text is used as part of the Listing Mark. UL strongly encourages you to visit the UL Security and Signaling Web site often to understand the steps your company may need to take to maintain product compliance in the future. For a smooth introduction into the marketplace, UL will also proactively advise jurisdictional authorities of the changes as well as the critical milestone dates for full implementation. Thank you for your support.
