Environmental and Public Health Resources
UL's Environmental and Public Health (EPH) program includes Food Service Equipment Sanitation, Drinking Water Additives, Drinking Water System Components, and Plumbing Products. Products used in the EPH arena must be manufactured in a manner that facilitates cleaning and basic sanitation, while at the same time insuring that the product does not contain toxic materials that could be detrimental to the health of the public or contaminate the environment. These products are evaluated to applicable UL standards, as well as to other national standards including, but not limited to, National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), American Water Works Association (AWWA), and American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE). UL is accredited to conduct evaluations on EPH products by numerous organizations, including, but not limited to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Institute of Standards and Technology under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NIST/NVLAP - NVLAP LAB CODE 100255-0) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL).
