UL Warns of Potentially Hazardous Self-Ballasted Lamps

NORTHBROOK, Ill., - December 9, 2005 - Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is notifying consumers that self-ballasted fluorescent lamps with locking mechanisms manufactured by Turolight bear a counterfeit UL Mark for the United States and Canada and may pose a risk of electric shock. These products have not been evaluated by UL and bear unauthorized UL Marks.

The information below supersedes UL's December 5, 2005 self-ballasted lamps public notice. The previous notice included incorrect pictures. In addition, model EL-20W-ES is not manufactured by Turolight.

Name of Product: TL-GLEOM

Units: Unknown quantity

Manufacturer: Turolight

Date of Manufacture: March 2005 which can be identified by "E03" marked on the lamp base.

Hazard: The products have features that present potential shock hazard.

Identification: The base of the lamps is marked with the Model No. "TL-GLEOM", electrical ratings "120V 60Hz", followed by "13W or 15 W" and may be marked "TUROLIGHT"

What you should do: UL recommends that users stop using the lamp immediately and return it to the place of purchase or contact Turolight.
