UL Announces the Expansion of RTP Lighting CenterNorthbrook, Ill., October 29, 2007 -- Underwriters Laboratories, the world's leading safety testing and certification organization has recently expanded service delivery capability at its Research Triangle Park (RTP) test facility in North Carolina. The organization has added additional staff to handle increased certification demand from lighting manufacturers and has re-opened in-house testing capabilities for select product categories. The lab is currently operational and will initially focus on portable luminaires and incandescent surface- and wall-mounted luminaires certified to UL153 and UL1598 Standards for Safety. The move is part of a broader strategy to grow service delivery infrastructure in the North America region, which has resulted in a 17 percent increase to the capacity of UL's North American lighting group during the last 12 months. "We will continue to add both lab technicians and engineering resources to better serve the North America lighting industry," said Shari Hunter, Lighting Operations Manager for UL's North America region. "The RTP re-opening will be a great step towards helping our customers answer existing and future certification needs."
