Underwriters Laboratories CEO Keith Williams elected Secretary/Treasurer of US-China Business Council

NORTHBROOK, Ill., June 7, 2007 -- The U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC) announced today the election of Keith Williams, President and CEO of Underwriters Laboratories (UL), as Secretary/Treasurer. He was initially elected to the USCBC Board of Directors in 2006.

Williams, 54, is heading UL's global expansion as a world leader in product safety and certification with 6,200 engineers, technicians and professionals working worldwide, dedicated to a mission of public safety while helping manufacturers bring safer products to market faster.

Named UL's chief executive in April 2005, Williams spent eight years with Medtronic Inc., a world leader in medical device therapies, including president of Asia Pacific operations. Earlier, during his 23 years with GE Medical Systems, he was general manager of Global Logistics and lived in Beijing from 1993-96 when managing GE's Greater China medical devices group.

"The opportunity to help advance U.S.-China business relations with distinguished colleagues from a such a diverse group of global companies is unique," said Williams. "Our objective is to implement the Council's mission to promote fair and balanced trade between our nations such that both countries can benefit equitably from their growing economic exchanges."

As the leading organization of U.S. companies engaged in business with the People's Republic of China, the USCBC (www.uschina.org), founded in 1973, provides extensive China-focused information, advisory and advocacy services to nearly 250 U.S. corporations operating within the U.S. and throughout Asia.

UL began operations in China almost 30 years ago and has established a joint venture with the China Certification & Inspection (Group) Co. Ltd. (CCIC). The joint venture, UL-CCIC Company Limited, currently has five offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Chongqing.
