Tadakatsu Sano elected to Underwriters Laboratories' Board of Trustees

Northbrook, Ill., March 5, 2007 -- Underwriters Laboratories (UL) announced today that Tadakatsu Sano, a global trade expert and former senior Japanese government official, has been elected to the UL Board of Trustees.

Sano previously represented the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for more than 35 years. He served as director-general of the International Trade Policy Bureau and Trade Administration Bureau and was the Vice Minister of International Affairs and Executive Assistant to Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa.

He also has worked with World Trade Organization officials in U.S.-Japan auto industry negotiations and semiconductor talks, and helped the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), to launch its Regulatory Reform Programme which led to widespread regulatory reforms in Japan. He is presently a partner with the global law firm Jones Day.

Sano is a frequent speaker at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Aspen Institute, and BOAO International Forum. He has contributed in publishing three books: Mid-term Prospects of Japanese Economy and Industry; Economic Growth, Energy and Environment; and Venture Capital and Small Business. He holds an LL.B. from Kyoto University and currently resides in Tokyo.
